Eye Protection: One Size Does Not Fit All Not all anti-fog coatings are created equal •Fog forms on a surface when water vapor in the air condenses into fine droplets. •Anti-fog coatings can be hydrophilic (attract water) or hydrophobic (repel water). •Hydrophilic coatings are most effective for moderate moisture, such as the moisture in processing plants. These coatings have limitations as they will come off over time from wiping/rubbing. •Hydrophobic coatings are effective in high-moisture environments, including those worksites where users often go between warm to cold areas. Fit and comfort are EVERYTHING •Glasses should sit snug against the face. The biggest gaps are usually near the corners of the glasses. The bigger the gap the more exposure to hazards coming in from a slight angle above or below. •Safety glasses offer a variety of features that improve comfort without adding great cost such as soft nose pieces and padded temples. •Different styles may fit one person better than another. Employers should offer more than one option to workers to accommodate faces of different sizes and shapes. Never underestimate the importance of providing safety eyewear that offers optimal fit, comfort, and even style for keeping two of the most precious assets we have out of trouble. When choosing eye and face protection, Fastenal is here to guide you through the process. What do the different product markings mean?
