OSHA 1910.138 Hand Protection: Are You Covered? Workers play a key role in keeping hands out of trouble OSHA has given employers the what and the why; employers determine the who and the how. We as workers also have a role, and perhaps the most important. It’s ultimately up to us and our behaviors to keep us healthy and out of the line of fire. Incorporate a pre-job checklist into your work routine as the final piece to protecting your most valuable tool! ✓✓ ✓ ✓✓✓ I know the hand hazards that exist with the job in front of me. I have the right gloves for the job based on the hazards that exist. I’ve also considered hazards to my wrists and arms. My gloves fit and provide the dexterity and grip I need. (Poor fit is not only uncomfortable, but can make work difficult and dangerous.) My gloves are free of tears, holes, and fraying. I know where, when, and how to find a new pair of gloves. I am encouraged by my supervisor to ask questions or bring up concerns with my PPE. Last but not least - know where your hands are, and keep your eyes on them. Many injuries are the result of simply taking our eyes off our hands.
