SPEED UP PRODUCTION IALIST WITH A FIELD APPLICATION SPEC GREG BUFORD FIELD APPLICATION SPECIALIST What exactly is a Field Application Specialist? Our mission is to partner with customers to provide customized metalworking programs aimed at reducing TCO, improving product performance, and fueling productivity. How do you add value to the companies you work with? I work with manufacturers and customers to bridge the gap in finding ways to cut costs on tooling and ways to save money by process improvements. This can be achieved several ways, but mostly focusing on using the right tool for the job, bringing in new technology in tooling, or finding cheaper tools to do the same work. Do people think of you as an extension of their own team? I work hard to help the customer understand that I am employed and compensated by Fastenal, but I work for their company. Essentially, I am an extension of the customers that I service. My job is to find ways to cut costs for them and make sure that these cost savings projects get documented and then implemented. What’s your main focus? I work with production managers or an engineering team to help find pain points, then address them. Basically, we find ways that we can fix these issues. Whether it be cycle time improvement or tool life extension, I will work to ensure that we try to find the right tools for the job in a way that benefits the customer in the most effective and efficient ways.
